ARTIST’S STATEMENT
There is no imagination more vivid than of a Child’s, how adults perceive the world as routine and often mundane, children view every day activities as great voyages and expeditions. Encounters with fantastic creatures and wild animals come daily through the eyes of a child. As I recall a childhood memory from a place buried deep in my subconscious, I see a faded picture. A once so radical adventure is somewhat disregarded and stored into my thoughts as simply fiction. Great journeys and tales of mystical beings are now obliterated with reality. The innocence of thought I once encountered everyday is simply now a faded memory. Maturity in all its glory comes with a price, the sacrifice of innocence. My concentration work focuses on the attempt to rediscover my childhood adventures. I document my recollections of these expeditions through a variety of patterns and strokes. Layers are often used in my work to symbolize my maturing and growth. My intention is to compare and contrast my past and present day imagination, my once innocent perspective has now evolved to a mature awareness. Through audience interaction with my pieces I hope to trigger past adventures in their years of adolescence. When they relate to the work, they react. Where there it a subtle laugh or regretful sigh they see themselves , I hope to rediscover these feelings in my art.
